In September 2013 Sam took the decision to grow his hair for a year and to raise funds for Ian's Tribute Fund by seeking sponsors to have it cut. After his run out with Manchester FC 1st XV on 27 September Sam will be having his hair cut off in the clubhouse at the Club, c6pm

Ian coached Sam from the age of 13 to his introduction to 1stXV rugby at Manchester FC. Ian was also a very good friend to Sam and his family
It was fitting that, in May this year, Sam was jointly awarded the Ian "Thommo" Thompson Award for Coaching Services at Manchester FC, Sam now coaching the club's successful u15's team. Thommo's coaching legacy is being passed on to a new generation of young rugby players.
